" RESOLUTION NO. 2.172
RESOLUTION OF THE SOUTH TAHOE PUBLIC UTILITY DISTRICT
TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS NEEDED EFFORT TO ASSURE THE
AVAILABILITY OF FACTUAL INFORMATION AND TO ENCOURAGE
GENERAL UNDERSTANDING OF STATE AND LOCAL WATER ISSUES
WHEREAS, the SOUTH TAHOE PUBLIC UTILITY DISTRICT is one of
nearly 300 member agencies of the Association of California Water
Agencies that are responsible for delivering to the state's water
users about 85 percent of the water distributed in California for
agricultural, industrial and domestic uses; and
WHEREAS, this agency and its sister agencies to the Association
are vitally concerned about the water future of California and the
ability of local water agencies to secure adequate water supplies
to meet the needs of the state's water users; and
WHEREAS, the time is here for major decisions concerning water
and affecting the very economic and social future of the State of
California, and it is imperative that these decisions be based on
sound and complete information regarding complex issues; and
WHEREAS, many of these strategic decisions will be made by
the elected representatives of the people in Sacramento and /or
Washington, D.C., or by the people themselves in some occasions
where such important issues reach the general ballot; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the South Tahoe Public
Utility District believes it a part of its public responsibility
to facilitate the dissemination of information on issues and prob-
lems of concern to the district and effecting its ability to continue
to provide the services for which the people created it; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors of the South Tahoe Public
Utility District reaffirms its commitment to provide sound and
complete information to the people of California and specifically
of this District; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors directs the district
staff to pursue an active communication program to disseminate
information within the District on local and statewide water issues
and problems, and particularly as they relate to District needs and

concerns, so that the people will have a sound, complete and
objective base of information on current and future water needs
`,,, and requirements; and, be it further
RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors urges other interested
and involved organizations to participate in this needed effort to
assure the availability of factual information and to encourage
general understanding of state and local water issues.
