RESOLUTION NO. 2665-98
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE SOUTH TAHOE PUBLIC UTILITY DISTRICT
PROCLAIMING 1998 AS THE YEAR TO GO NATIVE!
WHEREAS, a primary purpose of the District is to ensure an adequate supply of
5 high quality water; and
6 WHEREAS, during the growing season, landscape maintenance accounts for the
7 biggest use of water, and;
8 WHEREAS, a water-efficient landscape can be more beautiful - and require less
9 work - than a thirsty garden; and;
10 WHEREAS, by planting native and/or drought-resistant wildflowers, grasses,
11 shrubs, and trees, citizens can contribute to the sustainability of the Lake Tahoe
12 ecosystem and conserve our water resources; and;
13 WHEREAS, the Tahoe Resource Conservation District is seeking a grant from
14 the California Department of Conservation Resource Conservation District Grant
Program, and in partnership with the Nevada Tahoe Conservation District, USDA
Natural Resources Conservation Service and other organizations are introducing a
"Backyard Conservation Program" in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors of the South
Tahoe Public Utility District does proclaim 1998 as the Year to Go Native! and joins
the Backyard Conservation Program partners by sponsoring activities to enhance
and increase water efficiencies in sustainable landscaping.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a duly held Regular Meeting of the Board of
Directors of the South Tahoe Public Utility District on the 15th day of January, 1998,
by the following vote:
