possible degree the fisheries on our waters having the highest potential
in order to absorb the increasing numbers of ,anglers. Lake Tahoe
offers one of the very best possibilities for this purpose.
It is our understanding that the California Department of Fish
and Game has made a request for specific flows to protect the fishlife
on the upper Truckee River and to maintain its value as a natural
spawning area. It is our opinion that the upper Truckee River offers
the highest potential of any of the streams that are tributary to the
Truckee River insofar as natural spawning area is concerned. Thus,
we would like to request that your Board give full consideration to the
California Department of Fish and Game's recommended flows. We
feel that the economy of Lake Tahoe has its very basis, in recreation,
and inasmuch as the fishing is one of the major types of recreation and
the upper Truckee River can help by a large degree to increase the
quality of the fishing, we deem that it. is of extreme significance that
you give your full support to the California. Department of Fish and
Game's request. Thank you.

Gentlemen:
September 9, 1960
It has come to our attention that you will be considering
water storage applications on the upper Truckee River by the
Meyers Water Company in the near future. Inasmuch as the
upper 'Tru kee'R ver is a tributary to Lake Tahoe, we would
like to submit this letter for your consideration.
We have been conducting a research project to study
the fishery resources of Lake Tahoe since 1.954 Our efforts
have largely been centered around the stocking of fish into this
body of water for the reason that Nevada has little to offer in the
way of suitable streams for natural propagation. We do realize,
nevertheless, the extremely high value that the larger tribu-
taries in California have in the way of providing natural recruit-
ment to the lake. During the past year, due to the intense
interest of the local populace in western Nevada and the Tahoe
region, we have expanded the research project and the
California Department of Fish and Game joined forces with us to
embark upon a sizable mutual program to develop the fishery to
a level that is in line with the high potential it offers. This pro-
gram is strongly supported by the sportsmen of western Nevada,
the Tahoe area, and eastern California.
A.s you already know, the human population of this area is
rapidly gr,ow-iivand it is essential that we develop to the highest
