Arrived on Fairway at 8:00am and was informed that they were continuing on the Bowers side of the project and continued work on Forest Avenue. Excavation began at the dentist’s office driveway on Forest and headed east towards Ski Run ending on the west side of the intersection where a test cap was placed The Vinciguerra crew (1 operator, Jim and 9 Underground Utility Pipe Fitters, 1 Truck Driver) arrived and continued on the north side of Forest. A Cat 314C was used to dig the trench for the new 8” C 900 water pipe. The crew placed 6” of aggregate base to be used as bedding with pipe placed on top of it. They then placed base up to spring line and water jet it to make sure there were no voids under the pipe. 1’ of aggregate base was then placed over the pipe and compacted by jumping jack whackers. 95% of the maximum dry density is required on base and testing was performed. The maximum dry density of the base is a 132.6 at 7.2% moisture as provided by CME on 5-18-22. The results of the testing can be found in this report. The native material that was placed was also tested using a 119.6 maximum dry density and 11.5% moisture. These numbers were also provided by the CME laboratory. Results for this testing can also be found in this report. Although the the specifications call for 95% had been informed by Adrian with STPUD that 90% would be satisfactory on the intermediate backfill. A compaction wheel attached to an excavator was used for compaction efforts. 100’ of DR14 was placed on Forest Ave and was backfilled along with 4 services, all long. They were located at 3610, 3628, 3632 and 3636 Forest. 1” service was placed for 3628 as it also feeds 3626. Arizona Pipeline arrived and saw cut the new trench line needed on Forest. The Vinciguerra crew then began to trench east. They also had a Vac trailer working at the intersection of Forest and Ski Run locating existing utilities, gas, electrical and communication are all believed to be in that area. In this area it had been marked to hand dig and the crew did that as well as use Vac trailer. It was believed that all utilities were located and that the water would have to rope down to get clearance with other utilities. Further investigation showed that fittings will be needed to achieve clearance. The crew capped the pipe on the west side of the intersection and plated the rest of the open trench, signs will posted giving the warning of plates on the roadway. As it turns out they had closed Ski Run BLVD which in the city’s eyes is a not to be done. The contractor was under the assumption that it was okay but stated they will only close half lane with flaggers in the future. The crew hit a sewer lateral for the dentist office, (it was on mark) it was fixed and they moved on. Mark from the city came to site and was upset that Ski Run was closed and was not happy with the amount of dirt in roadway. Assured him that the contractor dumps into trucks and they clean up every night. Was also informed that he had issues with the other project as well and was going to get a hold of Adrian.
