Arrived on Forest at 8:00am and was informed that they were moving to Vanda Lee. Excavation began across from 3610 Vanda Lee in church parking lot. The Vinciguerra crew (1 operator, Jim and 9 Underground Utility Pipe Fitters, 1 Truck Driver) arrived and began the excavation on the north side of Vanda Lee. A Cat 314C was used to dig the trench for the new 8” C 900 water pipe. The crew placed 6” of aggregate base to be used as bedding with pipe placed on top of it. They then placed base up to spring line and water jet it to make sure there were no voids under the pipe. 1’ of aggregate base was then placed over the pipe and compacted by jumping jack whackers. 95% of the maximum dry density is required on base and testing was performed. The maximum dry density of the base is a 132.6 at 7.2% moisture as provided by CME on 5-18-22. The results of the testing can be found in this report. The native material that was placed was also tested using a 119.6 maximum dry density and 11.5% moisture. These numbers were also provided by the CME laboratory. Results for this testing can also be found in this report. Although the the specifications call for 95% had been informed by Adrian with STPUD that 90% would be satisfactory on the intermediate backfill. A compaction wheel attached to an excavator was used for compaction efforts. 160’ of DR14 was placed on Vanda Lee and was backfilled along with 2 services, 1 long and 1 short. They were located at 3598, long and 3593, short. The crew did hit a storm drain that was in pretty bad shape but gravel bags were placed on the sides where the damage occurred and will be fixed on Monday when parts are available. This was approved by Mark with the city and with Adrian. The contractor also found a leak in a service when they went to pot hole. It was for 3601 Vanda Lee and STPUD was called to take a look. It was decided that the leak was not severe enough to fix at this time but if became a problem STPUD would return and fix. The area was backfilled with the meter and valve having plywood placed over the hole and a door hanger left although it appeared that no one had been there for awhile. After discussion with Adrian and Mark with the city it was decided to gravel bag around the damaged area and plate until Monday when parts will be available for proper fix, this area will be plated also.
