Arrived on Forest at 8:00am and was informed that they were continuing on Shirley with todays excavation beginning at 3580 and ended at fire hydrant located at station 4+98 Rt Shirley. The Vinciguerra crew (1 operator, Jim and 9 Underground Utility Pipe Fitters, 1 Truck Driver) arrived and began the excavation on the north side of Vanda Lee. A Cat 314C was used to dig the trench for the new 8” C 900 water pipe. The crew placed 6” of aggregate base to be used as bedding with pipe placed on top of it. They then placed base up to spring line and water jet it to make sure there were no voids under the pipe. 1’ of aggregate base was then placed over the pipe and compacted by jumping jack whackers. 95% of the maximum dry density is required on base and testing was performed. The maximum dry density of the base is a 132.6 at 7.2% moisture as provided by CME on 5-18-22. The results of the testing can be found in this report. The native material that was placed was also tested using a 119.6 maximum dry density and 11.5% moisture. These numbers were also provided by the CME laboratory. Results for this testing can also be found in this report. Although the the specifications call for 95% had been informed by Adrian with STPUD that 90% would be satisfactory on the intermediate backfill. A compaction wheel attached to an excavator was used for compaction efforts. 270’ of DR14 was placed on Shirley and was backfilled along with 5 services. They were located at 3582, 3575, 3577, 3588 and 3581. A service was also placed at 3610 Vanda Lee. There was another service that the crew had a hard time finding. They had dug 4’ wide and 5’ deep centered on the mark and had not located it. Larry with STPUD was called and arrived when he finished the job he was on. He hooked up electronically and said the marks were good but the depth was below our trench grade. They dug slow and never encountered it so the pipe was placed and we moved on. The crew also hit a sewer lateral at 3588 Shirley, it was on the mark they just missed it. It was fixed as they moved on. Casey and Vinciguerra were also onsite. Sergio was not onsite. Equipment onsite- 2 Cat 314C excavators, Cat 304E mini excavator, John Deere 210 skip loader, Cat 299D skid steer, 4 10 wheelers. 270’ of DR14 was placed on Shirley along with 5 services. They were located at 3582,3575, 3577, 3588 and 3581, along with a service on Vanda Lee at 3610 for total of 6 services. The hydrant at station 4+98 Rt Shirley was also set but not completed, drain rock needs to placed. The contractor also hit the sewer lateral at 3588 Shirley, they fixed it and moved on. It was on the mark just missed.
