Arrived on Fairway at 8:00am and as crew prepared to head east on Ferndale. The Vinciguerra crew (1 operator, Jim and 8 Underground Utility Pipe Fitters, 1 Truck Driver) arrived and began to head east out of “T” up Ferndale. The crew had to re-mobilize after the long weekend and a Cat 314C was used to dig the trench for the new 8” C 900 water pipe. The trench average was 62” deep and 25” wide. The crew placed 6” of aggregate base to be used as bedding under the C900 DR 18 or DR14, pipe placed on top of it. The DR 14 is used in conjunction with bell restraints where we go under the sewer or where we are within 10’ of sewer mainline. They then placed base up to spring line and water jetted it to make sure there were no voids under the pipe. 1’ of aggregate base was then placed over the pipe and compacted by jumping jack whackers. 95% of the maximum dry density is required on base and testing was performed. The maximum dry density of the base is a 132.6 at 7.2% moisture as provided by CME on 5-18-22. The results of the testing can be found in this report. The native material that was placed was also tested using a 119.6 maximum dry density and 11.5% moisture. These numbers were also provided by the CME laboratory. Results for this testing can also be found in this report. Although the the specifications call for 95% had been informed by Adrian with STPUD that 90% would be satisfactory on the intermediate backfill. A compaction wheel attached to an excavator was used for compaction efforts. 280’ of C900 DR 18 were placed ending at 3520 Ferndale (hydrant valve will be placed first thing) and backfilled along with 3 short and 3 long side services. The short services were located at 3504, 3520 and 3511 Blackwood (ran off Ferndale line). The long side services were located at 3515, 3519, and 3527 all on Ferndale. Sand was placed around the poly pipe prior to backfill to help protect the pipe. At times today residents asked if they could get their vehicles out and then back in, assured them that we would accommodate them when needed. The crew worked with them and they were able to get in and out with no trouble. The crew did find what appeared to be an abandoned 12” storm drain 10’ east of the valve tie in, Ferndale and Fairway intersection at start of excavation. They were able to work around and it was left in place. Departed site 1800 as crew continued clean up.
